LG 3350E -will hack invalidate my warranty?

Steve-e (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th March 2001, 20:05

O.K...Someone put me out of my misery...if I put the remote controll hack into my machine will this invalidate my warranty.
I`ve only just brought my machine therefore I don`t want to make a big mistake...what`s the legal standpoint.
The guy at the store said it would but I think he was thinking about chipping the machine.

Let me know

>"Remote hacking won`t "

Actually, yes it will.

I have posted this before. Hacks for example, the original 709 hack by hitting "Random" on an Aiwa hifi remote get thrown out by courts etc. as invalidating guarantees as it`s "Reasonable to assume a customer could have both units, and inadvertantly press the button on the remote by accident and deregionalise the player", however, hacks which require a code sequence are classed as "not reasonable to assume that the customer accidentally deregionalised the machine, as there would be no circumstance when this remote sequence would need to be keyed"

Any manufacturer or service agent realising a hack has been applied will decline to repair a unit as they will claim the unit has been "modified" from the manufacturer`s specifications (which if you check your warranty details is the claim, not "Hardware modified" or replaced components, just "modified"!!)

However, I DO know how to get around it, and that IS really simple.

Reset the hack to Region 2 only! (or your original region number)
Yep, simple really, but the easy way around having the hassle of being told you have "Modified the unit and therefore invalidated your warranty!" :o)

Trust me..by now you should know my ocupation ;o)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

Sound advice from Jimbo, and something we would all do well to remember.

People, don`t ever forget your original remote control hack, and if by chance you need to send the player back, or take it back, reinstate it to what it was before you tapped the buttons ! That means resetting it to Region 2, and on some players, enabling the Macrovision again !

I dont think putting in a remote hack affects you, but opening up the player and modifying it from the inside (chipping it) definitely voids warranty.
If remote hack does void warranty, and if something was to go wrong with the player how does one reset to region 2 when the machine is not in working order.
Hack into the machine and make it multiregion I say, because its usualy the laser that goes faulty and how can the manufacturer tell your machine is multiregion because region 2 disks will work anyway.

But doesn`t leaving the player off for a day or two reset the player anyway to it`s factory settings and thus back to R2 ???
