Hopeful Lenovo question

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 4th January 2022, 20:42

Daughter doing her degree work on a Lenovo ideapad C340.
Anyone own one.
Power light is on when plugged in but no response at all from switching it on.
Should it work if the battery is knackere or will that stop it switching on.

It should even work without a battery installed as long as the power pack is fine - but would obviously click off instantly if the power is removed.

Batteries on these things are internal now so short of dismantling it there's no access.
I'll have to ring around tomorrow to see if there's anyone local I'd trust to look at it.

I would imagine it's a very simple back cover removal and the battery easily accessible - however, I imagine the logic above still applies.

Yup.
A great deal in common with a chocolate teapot.

Don't mind taking it apart if the battery needs replacing but I just want that confirming.

Personally, this doesn't sound great or battery related. Take it it's out of warranty? :-(

In the past when I've seen this sort of thing, holding the power button down for an uncomfortably long time magically fixes it...

...mostly.

I've done that before too - but it is the first step in the Troubleshooting.

Not resolved yet.
Tried a small independent dealer I trust.
They don't think it's the battery but suspect it's the socket for the mains lead is a dodgy connection inside the machine. I've got my doubts about that.

Going to a lappy repair place tomorrow which looks to be OK and see what they come up with.
