Hi,
I am just trying to get to the bottom of some problems i have experienced since i bought this unit last week......
I have installed Windows 7 and Vista multiple times and it just does not seem very responsive, Vista runs a bit better than windows 7 but both OS end up running very sluggish when doing multiple tasks......if i am installing a program or unraring and browse the internet at the same time or even go into control panel or something, my PC starts to slow down pausing and freezing......if i move my mouse across the screen, it jerks across.
I have also installed Ubuntu and Mint and they are also quite slow to respond, and on top of that, most of the 1080p movies i run through XBMC tear and are jerky but 720 seems fine.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from this unit, i know it's not that high spec but it has a better rating than my last PC which ran Windows 7 just fine.
Other things that are annoying is firefox is so slow to load and scrolling is jerky and my external hard drive that i have set the policy to performance keeps sleeping, i am running a program to stop this happening.
Even when i am typing this message, the text is catching up with me, it's about a half second behind.
Sometimes it seems to run great and can be very responsive but it always ends up slowing down.
Anybody got any ideas? I don't want to open it up and check for faults when i can still send it back.
Chees.
Have you got something running that's eating up resources like antivirus software or something like that? Or maybe something like Windows Indexing and it's getting confused by multiple OSes. Have a look at your task manager, you may spot what's slowing things down.
I apologise if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs, but it's easy to miss the easy stuff if you're looking for a complicated answer.

also, in windows have a look in event viewer, see if there is some hardware failing, or similarly to Mark's suggestion above, it may show if a process is repeatedly trying to do somehting and failing.
Since you have the problem on all OSs it could be a hardware fault. have you tried reseating all the components? Is it definitely seeing all the memory etc inside it's supposed to have?
Maybe there's a BIOS setting set incorrectly?
skirpy, you need to get over the ;I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from this thing' ides. As I've said many times, it's well capable of what you want it to do - and more. After installing each OS, are you then installing the various chipset and graphics card drivers? Applying updates? Run a full chkdsk too. Does sound more of a hardware issue if it's all OS's - but checking for a BIOS setting is well worth a look!

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

i have a zotac Zbox which is based around very very similar hardware (ion 2 1.6 dual core atom) the revo should run anything upto win8 without any issues, in fact, although i still run XP on mine, it actually ran faster on win7 when i tested it, (i'm guessing due to better integration with the ion chipset)
on XP, mines quite slow when running multiple tasks, as it's only using the atom cpu, which on it's own is a bit of a slowpoke compared to higher end cpu's, but for running video etc, it's great, & easily handles 1080p mkv's etc.

Thanks for the replies again
and sorry for being a pest about this, i have posted about these problems a few times
I think i have it sorted now, i was looking in Bios Mods forum and see that Acer shipped a different bios for Linux, i already flashed the Windows 7 bios though Dos but it looks like it did not complete successfully.
I have just flashed the bios again using a flash tool and it has completed this time, i see now that there are new options in the bios so just done a default and my PC seems to be running a lot better
Cheers.
Obviously its fixed now (touch wood) but if not, and the HDD light is on a lot when it's misbehaving, if the Event Viewer isn't showing anything try launching the Resource Monitor and going to the disk manager tab, leave that open and when it happens alt-tab to it and you should be able to see which tasks are munching your HDD time.

I have read that the Western Digital drives in these are not the fastest so maybe try another if it starts playing up again.
